DSP - Digital Signal Processing

DSP is a collection of programs which allows you to make music with a computer, contains texts about the physics of sound and includes a piece of music written especially for DSP with the tools that are included on the CD-ROM. The piece can be taken apart, allowing you to explore all of the details of its making. The piece of music is presented as a video as well, where the eye travels through images while the ear travels through sound.

This is how the mixer window looks with a few sounds loaded in. You see the sounds as white fields with black areas:

From the menus at the top of the screen you can open different programs, where you may record your own sounds through the sound card, load sound files through the ordinary Windows-dialogue and process sounds in order to turn them into music. You can also download sounds from the Internet, and here (link) is a collection of recommended links. All the programs look similar to the figure below - when you pull on the "strings," you can make the sounds you want to hear.

The CD-ROM contains texts about the physics of sound, as well as Help texts with several examples for each program. This information is also found in the handbook, which looks like this:

håndbok

A piece of music has been written espeically for the CD, using the DSP programs. You can experiment with and change this piece as you like, and you may also see it in the form of a video. An excerpt from the video is found elsewhere on this web site.
